i realize i have so much wonderful exchanges and muses on fb, that i must contain them here. is another one
While
at The Quileute speaking with a native American there, I noticed my
ideas, and wording, 'hiking', and somehow it seemed like a trite way to
talk about going out in nature.
So I am wondering, where did we get that word, and how does it differ from what really goes on when we go out exploring?
For me, it is the difference between a trail of grueling switchbacks,
and or flat surfaces that I find so boring, and the hopping around over
logs and rocks that I love to do that requires more energetics and
balance, as seeing things from other perspectives. I think I am not a
good hiker, I am more like a grasshopper.
