i have a confession. this story is about a year old? the bruce to caitlyn story? well I am only now getting on the train and riveted. i found it because I happened to get caught on an episode of the kardashians at the end of bruce, not yet did he become caitlyn. i am still catching up to speed, but I find this story so fascinating, so empowering in terms of human existence. and one life to live such range, the full spectrum? and the dynamics that blow so much out of the water. like little knuckle headed pc automatons who tried to tell me it was wrong to refer to him as bruce, when I was watching a show called bruce or had the name bruce in the title, and it was about his approaching transitioning. and then there is an episode of caitlyn, in full female presentation refusing to sign her name anything other than bruce. so imagine these pc police in diapers coming for me when the focus of their conflict with me is himself referring to himself as himself and in the former identity. he, bruce who is travelling to caitlyn, is a complex story that challenges neat little boxes and packages. and i love it.
and this here is one aspect. I saw this episode. and I laugh inside, because again, dynamics. he is a conservative. it shows me no matter how you dress the outside, and how it may change, the inside stays who you are , and this has come out in a variety of ways, private and public. when kris jenner says she always thought bruce was insensitive but having engaged caitlyn, she sees that is who the person and entity is. and then publicly his lgbt community wants and needs him to be this flag waver as he does too, but he still is very much himself, a conservative white male. that is why i am very suspect of flag wavers. there is always a person and character below what they portray, that i watch more than any presentation, pretense or pr. and most folk dont. so you then have conflicts and shocks like this. i tell you this story is the source. great material for reflection, thought and revelations.
but what is intriguing to me about the whole thing is that folk are completely missing the observations, lessons and opportunities for understanding on a human level and just all up in their feels, their agendas, their needs, and their politics of various orders. judgment. only. and i am finally absorbing how judgment is really the speed train to avoid thinking..
the larger constructs are that of inherent identity not the ones you put on or shear off. this transgender entity that is bruce jenner caitlyn jenner is one that allows me to clarify my issues about feminism, which i always had, which i sometimes struggle to convey to others, mostly because I do not even try. but feminism is nothing but the feminine form of white male patriarchy, so why would i as a black african wombman ever align myself there? why would i ever expect such persons so aligned and gathered to ever speak my interest? let alone seek my interest? same here. bigger to all of this is privilege. caitlyn. people expect her to cease being bruce? who bruce was born to, his life before her, his existence and all that means. the total package of being privileged? ignoring the dressings of kanye, rayjay, chyna and lamar. dont get tied up. and a lot of people are.
just like an indian looking dougla telling me yesterday that a certain person, red, male of questionable origin, i have no idea if he is french creole, dougla, or syrian, he can be any of those, in politics, is the one person to bring the country of trinidad and all its factions together. and i expressed shock. his thinking was that that is what trinidadians like: red people of repute. and i only considered this person's character, their privilege, orientation and I tried to ask how is a person like that going to relate and seek after the interest of black poor and working class people to build a bridge from our various quarters to one nation. impossible// but we keep pulling at such threads connected to nothing and nowhere, or at best, the wrong ideas the wrong vehicles. so we constantly end up embanked and stranded on rocks and low tide. nothing to take us back sailing again.
like i said, quite intriguing.
