Merlin Hernandez: " I think we have to consider the Esoteric in the African relationship to work...It's a construct diametrically removed from the western view of work and has always had a celebratory dimension...not to forget but to fully inhabit..."
Merlin Hernandez: " Maven, it is not by accident that we were chosen to be the catalysts for the earth - defining task of building a new world. European adventurers had been interfacing with African culture for centuries before slavery. Their confounding was that our work is an extension of our being and that is because our physicality is intrinsic to our spirituality. We dance in praise, we dance in work, we dance in leisure. These are all celebratory because there is no spirit-mind-body fragmentation. We remain connected to the source... That made us desirable as labour because in the fragmented European world-view, that was all the saw. What slavery did was place the sole emphasis on the physical as a tool in the means of production. We survived it because we are plugged in, as it were. But we will not be subject to being cogs in the wheel again. We will take back our power in ways that they understand - ergo violent youth crime. As elders, we have too let the young know from whence we have come and that buying into their ways negates ours. We have to re-integrate our people to the fullness that is our heritage so that they will remember that work, pray, and play are on the same continuum. Ase!"
I have so many notes on this exploration. I actually hoped that I would one day do something with it all. Life and family just seems to get in the way of time...

And it is that music dance that creates the magic. The illusion that they are just having fun dancing. This time is heavy military training going on that they slaves used to combat esp in brazil. To watch a capoierista play is hypnotizing
That was probably part of the magic to put enemies in a trance with music and dance
