" i am glad I did not take the bait of this post. i needed to watch and see its fruit, the caliber of discussion but the way it started screamed alarm bells for me. but i can say this, allowed to say this once it has been posted and offered...i do not subscribe to labels and certainly not to ones of those used by the unknown-- knowing little if anything of of the world in its vastness, as differentiated from where they stand, and upholding so many dualities, sterotypes, boxes and wrong headed notions...
just cause you are on an island in trinidad, if that is all you know of the world, i cant have a discussion with you about what is 50 degrees latitude 86 longitude
when others use language, even when common< I have learned their definition and mine might not be the same thing., especially to lightning fire rods like this topic. sigh

" Dialogue and debate are always healthy and from time to time we need to engage it, especially when there is so very little critical thinking. Tis not very often that I get to discuss international issues with women of such distinguished caliber and quality, as are tagged to this post. It is actually out of a profound respect for these women that I sought to engage dialogue Maven. Each contribution having the seeds of merit within same as it leads to further dialogue and clarity of definitions, terms and values in general. Fortunately, my forums are free from hate speech and profanity, so the youth reading can learn, can benefit a hundred years from now looking back at this thread."

" there is very little to learn here Kwame>
you started a post asking about feminism when in fact there are a good dozen perspectives or schools on it.
Then you ask a group of Black women about a white woman's construct> I shall let the few of you possible give thought to the sense and legitimacy of that
Thirdly, you did not have a discussion first to assess what each of us might define as feminism. cause we may all use the same word and language and define drastically different things
Fourthly, you come with only very traditional, narrow, forms, dominant paradigms, structures and citations to make your point
All of that is why I have no engagement here, or very little. And all fo that is why I would ask anyone seeking knowledge or sense to throw this whole thread out the window to where it belongs. like ashes in the wind. disappearing to nothing
what is ultimately fascinating, real black women (and I say that tongue in cheek) dont do feminism, if anything they do Womanism which is about family, relationships, community and the recognition of the power and abilities of women. It acknowledges our ancestors and ancestral cultures of matriarchy long before men sought to rewrite the world into their image. Womanism values Nature!!
in closing, I would also like to say, black wombmen who know, will not be found anywhere close to a paradigm that is built on a foundation of patriarchy and racism, and white supremacist domination
We have a lot to read and learn beyond being reactionary in ignorance"

"***Poll For Women Only: Are You For or Against Feminism?***
In the modern world a growing number of women are publicly distancing themselves from the labeling of feminism citing that the movement, which allegedly began as a means of defending women's rights has taken on malevolent manifestations of man bashing amid calls for not just gender equality, but role reversal and therefore female domination and bizarre "freedoms".
Knowing that I am surrounded by many a plethora of sophisticated, intelligent, strong and competent women from varied social, ethnic and economic backgrounds, I turn the question over to you. Do you feel that the feminist label and agenda is an advocate or adversary in the struggle for genuine female development?
Thanking you in advance.
